Australia’s ageing population is sparking a growing demand for retirement villages and aged care services. This is an industry which our firm made a strong commitment to approximately 15 years ago, and we have come to be regarded as one of the leading law firms in New South Wales specialising in this area.
One of the partners of Atkinson Vinden, Sheena Joshi, and our Special Counsel Guy Vinden, act for some of the largest retirement village operators in New South Wales. We author the loose leaf legal updates which are relied upon by retirement village practitioners across New South Wales, and we regularly provide keynote speakers at industry conferences due to our superior experience in this area.
Our interest in retirement villages and aged care law now extends beyond New South Wales as our clients increasingly spread their portfolios beyond state boundaries.
We act for both not-for-profit and private retirement villages and aged care operators. We provide an active voice to our parliamentarians regarding matters of concern to the industry, and on occasion we have provided effective representation for clients in NCAT, when dealing with disputes between operators and residents.
As one of New South Wales’ leading law firms in providing expert advice in the health and aged care area, our particular focus is on compliance with the Retirement Villages Act, 1999 (NSW) and the Aged Care Act, 1997 (Cth).
Our experience is coupled with a pragmatic approach to issues and we concentrate on understanding your business and staff. In doing so, we provide a hands on service and can meet on site to better understand your needs.
From time to time we also take instructions from residents, but only in villages and aged care facilities where we do not currently act for the operator.
