NSW Strata Laws are now more “pet friendly”

General, News & Updates

Finally there is some good news for pet owners currently living in or considering moving into a strata controlled building.

The New South Wales Government is in the process of amending the model By-Laws contained in the Strata Schemes Management Act 1996 (NSW) which currently prohibits pet owners from keeping pets in their property unless they obtain the formal consent of their Owners Corporation.

The changes mean that owners will now be able to have pets in their property subject to reasonable consent and conditions set by the Executive Committee of the Owners Corporation for their property.

Whilst the changes are only minor, in that you still need to obtain some consent from the Executive Committee it does allow more freedom for pet owners who were having to find alternate accommodation for their pets, when moving into a strata controlled building.
