National Minimum Wage Increase

Employment Law

The Fair Work Commission has recently announced that the national minimum wage will increase by 3.0% to $19.49 per hour. This change came into operation on 1 July 2019.

The increase in the national minimum wage means that minimum wages contained in modern awards will also be increased effective 1 July 2019. At the time of writing, the ‘high-income threshold’ (currently $145,500) has not yet increased, however it is expected to increase as it does annually.

It is important that businesses review their payroll systems and ensure that employees are receiving their appropriate minimum entitlements. If you are unsure whether your business is complying with its employment obligations, you should contact the experienced employment law team at Atkinson Vinden Lawyers for advice.
